Anglican Diocese of Riverina

A proud member of the Anglican Church of Australia.

Welcome to the Anglican Diocese of Riverina.

We provide Christian ministry to the largely remote and rural towns, villages and communities of western New South Wales. Our Diocese covers the western 37% of the State and seeks to share the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with those who live in these communities.

There are 21 Parishes in the Diocese stretching from Corowa in the south-east on the Murray River to Wentworth in the south-west at the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers; from the Parish of Broken Hill and The Far West in the north (which includes Tibooburra, White Cliffs and Wilcannia) to Lake Cargelligo, Ariah Park and Coolamon in the east.

Griffith is the administrative centre of the Diocese with the Cathedral Church of St Alban the Martyr and the Diocesan Registry.

A Prayer for all people in this time of need:

God of compassion and love, ever present in our need,
be with all people who are suffering because of the Covid Pandemic;
those sick with the virus, those struggling to support them, and those grieving the death of loved ones.
Help and guide all health professionals as they seek to bring healing and sustain life.
Give wisdom to all in our communities so that we may respect and protect one another
though the simple precautions asked of us.
May your love for all humanity bring life and salvation
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Centenary Evensong at St Alban's Cathedral

Evensong at St Alban’s Cathedral Griffith, with guest choir the Mater Chorale, held on Friday 29th Sept 2023 to celebrate 100 years since the laying of the first foundation stone of the parish, which was laid on 29th September 1923.

Due to the current Covid-19 Our Restrictions are as follows:

Church Services are limited to a total of 100 people. One person per 2m2 rule applies so the total size of the floor space in each Church building will determine the number of people who can attend worship in that building.

We continue to maintain hand sanitization and distribution of Holy Communion in one kind only.

Funerals – the same limit as above applies. So, if your Church building can only fit 30 people on the 4m2 rule then any additional attendees must remain outside where no number limit applies.

Weddings – the limit is 150 people, but the building size restriction still applies in the same way as Funerals.

Congregational singing without masks is allowed (although masks area still recommend). A group of singers/choir can sing at Sunday worship so long as they maintain 2m2 apart from the congregation.

Each and every Parish has a COVID-19 safe plan registered with NSW Health.
We are still providing Online Resources via our YouTube Channel.
Weekday prayers are also available on our Facebook Page.

About Us

The Diocese of Riverina was established from parts of the Diocese of Bathurst and the
Diocese of Goulburn. Our first Bishop, Bishop Sidney Linton, was consecrated on the 1st,
May 1884 and was enthroned the following year in Hay on 18th, March 1885.

Meet the Bishop

Donald Kingsley Kirk was Consecrated and Installed as the Eleventh Bishop of Riverina on a glorious winter morning on Saturday 15th of June at the Cathedral Church of St Alban the Martyr in Griffith.

The Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and Metropolitan of NSW, the Most Reverend Dr Glenn Davies presided at the consecration service which was attended by more than 20 Bishops and senior clergy from other dioceses in Australia as well as clergy and parishioners from the Diocese of Riverina.

Holy Bible Verses

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
